ABOUT
The Story
Sy, a skal enforcer, fails to save a hostage when a group of criminals flee from a massacre. When the young man remains missing, and no leads or body is found, the case gets dropped. Feeling responsible, Sy steps outside of his duties to search for him. The investigation leads him away from his familiar city center, and down the path of a bigger, murkier plot.
Proximity is a scifi-fantasy comic with crime/detective and horror elements, set in a post-apocalyptic world where humans and skal (fairies) were made to co-exist after their worlds were tossed into a volatile amalgamation.
Intended for a mature audience.
How it started
The first idea that eventually led to Proximity started when I made a drawing inspired by the simple idea of having fairies be really cool and scifi-themed, which resulted in the artwork below of the fairy with the red wings. Then it simmered in my head for a while and got mixed in with my love for detective stories. That resulted in the drawing of the fairy at a murder crime scene. And then another drawing, of a fairy in a more cyberpunk setting with some bright pink light. After that, there was no stopping it anymore. The idea of these fairy cops wearing cool scifi suits would not leave my head. Slowly it developed further. I decided that the fairies should all have blue wings. I came up with the worldbuilding of a (post-)post-apocalyptic world where fairies and humans lived together after their worlds got jumbled together. And in the meantime I came up with a plot to glue it all together into one big story for a webcomic.
The Creator
Hi! I am Incognito Pencil and I’m an artist from the Netherlands. Proximity is a solo passion project, so I both write and draw the comic.
I have loved making art for as long as I can remember. At first I was solely/mostly a traditional artist. Pencils, fineliner pens, watercolor, acrylic and oil paint. I have used many different mediums. But for quite some years already I have also been making digital art. With my webcomic, digital art has now become my most used medium. I have had the desire to create a story for a long time. I had some other story ideas before Proximity, but the attempts to create a (hybrid) novel ended as false starts. Finally I decided that I was, in fact, not way too slow at drawing to be able to make a comic. (Or perhaps my speed had just increased.)
I have several other hobbies like cross stitching, knitting, crocheting, gaming and binge-watching shows. But art and my webcomic take priority (until one of my guinea pigs squeaks so loud that the entire neighborhood could hear them because they are dying right this very second unless they get their delicious greens).
